What Types Of Adoption Are There?
There are several types of adoption plans that you as the birth parent get to choose from:
- Open Adoption
- Semi-Open Adoption
- Closed Adoption
You are entirely in control and get to make this decision. After all, you deserve to feel confident this is the right choice for you.
Semi-Open Adoption
Like open adoption, you can be a part of your child’s life, but to whatever extreme you desire. Instead of communication being directly exchanged with the adoptive family, communication will go through an adoption professional who can help you figure out the amount of contact you participate in.
Open Adoption
Open adoption allows you to participate in large and small milestones in your child’s life. While you won’t be responsible for their care, you can still be a big part of their life. Open adoptions allow you to share identifying information with the adoptive family, allowing free-flowing communication and contact.
Closed Adoption
Closed adoption allows you to move on quietly without providing any identifying records and remaining anonymous. All documents will be legally sealed to protect your identity and information. Some women find this is the best choice for them, and that’s okay! There is no one “right” choice when it comes to adoption, only what is right for you.
